Our application fees

We have a 4 tier structure for our fees. The more complex and commercial an application, the higher the fee.

Our applications where a $20 fee is payable include:

  • Changing your name in our records
  • Noting of mortgages, leases, licenses or other land use agreements by a Registrar of the Māori Land Court
  • Status change from general land to Māori land
  • Further Interest Succession to Māori land (where more interests are found after succession has already been completed).

Our applications where a $60 fee is payable include:

  • Succession to Māori land
  • Transfer of shares in Māori land
  • Establishment of trust over Māori land
  • Adding, reducing or removing trustees of a trust which manages Māori land
  • Determining the ownership of structures on Māori land
  • Occupation of Māori land.

Our applications where a $200 fee is payable include:

  • Partition, subdivision, amalgamation and aggregation of Māori land
  • Anything related to a Māori Incorporation
  • Roadways, access, easements and survey of Māori land
  • Commercial Fisheries and Aquaculture related applications
  • Chief Judge related applications.

Our only $350 applications are those to the Māori Appellate Court.

Fees must be paid with your application

All applications must be accompanied by the correct fee, which can be paid (in New Zealand currency) by cheque, cash or EFTPOS at any of our offices.

You may also make special arrangements to make a direct credit (bank transfer) or money order payment.

If you’re having trouble paying an application fee

We recognise that it may be difficult for you to pay an application fee. This may be due to your financial circumstances or because of the special nature of the application you wish to make.

A Registrar, Deputy Registrar or Judge has the power to reduce, refund or waive (cancel) any fee, but you will need to make a specific request for us to consider on the appropriate application form.

If you are likely to find it difficult to pay an application fee then you should discuss your situation with us.
